What book did you choose for the independent reading project? Why did you choose this book?

I didn't choose a book yet. I haven't chosen a book because i haven't found a good book that has been at my reading level. I want to read a book with a good story line and a good ending to it.

Post modern is what happens after and what is happening now. I think it is when people are telling there lie that can also be the truth. Things like post modern books or movies the truth is always exaggerated.

What do you remember about the feminist and race lens?

For the feminist lens i remember that they always want to know the male and female roles. They also want know who has the power the male or the female. For the race lens i remember which culture has the most power. They also want to know how the culture is portrayed.

What do you think psychoanalytic criticism is?

I think that it is where you analyze anything to do with the mind.

Why do you think you chose this book to bring in?

I didn't bring a book in because i didn't have a book to bring in. I chose a book from the counter since i didn't bring one in. I chose the book night because i thought that is was the most enjoyable book that was on the counter.

What is your earliest memory of reading?

I remember i was in about first or second grade and our teacher read a book to us. I don't remember what the book was called but i know that it was a really interesting book. It was one of the first longer novel that was ever read to me.

Athis point, what do you think the strongest part of your paper is? What needs the most work?

The strongest parts of my paper are the interviews that i did. I think i asked some pretty good questions and got some good answers. The length of my paper needs the most work i have to find more things to talk about in it so it can be a minimum of 7 pages.

Why is it so important to have "evidence" in a paper? What would be considered evidence?

It supports your paper. So things like quotes can back up your research or interviews. At least one quote per paragraph can really help your paper.

What topic did you pick? What sources did you use?

I am going to do my project about my Grand father from my moms side of the family i am going to interview him about how his life was while he was in the Vietnam war and how it had changed after he came back from the Vietnam war. I am also going to interview my great grandmother about her memorable moments in history. I am also going to see how far back i can trace my family. I used sources like Ebco and Wikipedia.

What is your "Go To" source for research? When beginning a paper where would you look first?

When i start a research paper i usually just search the topic on Google. The site that usually has the most information is Wikipedia which i use most often even though some teachers say don't use it.

What do you know about graphic novels? Have you read one before? How are they similar to conventional books? How are they different?

A graphic novel is a comic book. It is similar to a conventional book because they both tell stories. They are different because the graphic novel is usually more visually appealing to the reading and it might grab the readers attention more.

When have you felt like you really didn't fit in? Did the situation ever change? How?

I felt like i didn't fit in when i am in a class full of people that i can't relate to. The situation changed because i am now out of that class and have moved on. I didn't fit in because i didn't have any friends in that class so i didn't have anything to do but listen to the teacher talk.

The Namesake Chapter 1- What was interesting to you? What do you have questions about?

I think the baby's name is weird and interesting. I think that the way that the two cultures mixed was interesting. I don't have any questions about anything right now about this chapter.

To what extent does a person's name shape his/her identity?

I think your name can define the look of you. If your name is like jamal then you probably can expect what they look like. I don't think you name can determine a persons personality.

what are at least 2 things that are important about post-colonialism?

-I think having a say in who you are is important.
-I also think that you are the normal and human so everyone should value your opinion.

What is colonialism? What are some examples of colonialist ideologies?

It is when you try to take political control over a country.  An example of colonialism is when Europe came to America and spread their own religion and technology. Things that can get in the way are if the people that are being colonized rise in power and take over them.

What does the phrase "Double Consciousness" mean to you?

I think it is where there is like a good side of you and a bad side of you. The bad side wants you to make the bad decision. The good side wants you to make a good decision. They both are weighing the goods and the bad of the decision that you are about to make.

Why do we tell stories? What value do they have beyond entertainment?

Most of the time stories are told for entertainment purposes. Some other reasons people might tell a story is so people can learn about you and you family. It can also give other people information if they didn't see what happened and you wanted them to know so you tell them the story.

What makes a movie interesting? Is it the same or different from what makes a book interesting? How?

I think the storyline is what keeps my interest during a movie. If there is not a good storyline or it isn't funny then it will lose my interest. I think that its the same for a book but with a book it can go into more detail and you imagine it yourself.

How is studying film similar to studying a book? How are they different?

When your studying a film there is an actual visual picture. When your studying the book you have to create your own image from the words that the author has written. I think they are the same in finding out the setting and stuff like that but the author might tell you the setting and what is going on in the book.
